Red tape, Adaptability and Simplification

As we are living in unprecedented times in modern history, we all know that things will change, to what they will change into that is still undefined and it will still be for some time

When we think about our business going back to full operation and profitability there are a number of things to take into consideration, depending on your line of business it may be a close the shop entirely, it may be a redefinition of priorities and strategic plans, a tweak on some or all major processes, the generation of an entirely new Business Model or an increase in the current capacities to meet demand, any of these possibilities or a combination of some of them will be faced by all of us sooner rather than later, but there is one thing for sure and that is, nothing will be as it was at the end of 2019

Some of the fundamentals we will all need to very quickly address is Red Tape, now whenever I raise this issue the immediate response I get is “I don’t have any of that in my business, whenever we have to deal with Red Tape is entirely out of my hands as once things gets into dealing with government agencies things hit a break” time and time again this has proven to be only partially true, whenever we look at work that gets done and the speed in which it is executed we find a number of obstacles that need to be overcome, and this is all internal, it is all self inflicted and it has to do with a number of possible reasons from lack of clear accountability, concentration of authority, lack of trust , duplications and or multiplication of steps that are part of the normal way of doing things and have not been even considered as an issue, in times of change velocity is paramount and should be addressed at all levels, starting with the C suite.

Adaptability is a skill that is difficult to master particularly when you go to the same source for ways to adapt, under the current business conditions creativity takes a leading role, and new fresh and innovative ideas must be executed, now more than ever leaving audacious plans on the shelf for future consideration can mean life or death for some hard to change organizations, and please do not go only to see what new technology is out there, define what you envision and have the technology support you getting there and not the other way around

Simplification appears to be an obvious path, nonetheless this requires a pragmatic point of view and perspective, once more if you continue going to the same sources for advice you will continue ignoring what might be a major opportunity for adapting your business for the new normal; which by the way I believe will go through many iterations before it plateaus again, simple processes, simple ways of delivering to your customer , stockholders and stakeholders are always the most profitable ones, over complicated conditions ad up to internal Red Tape that you really want to avoid

Challenging times are and will continue to be faced by all industries in ways in which nobody has seen before, it is a time for snap creative thinking and rapid execution, be quick to react, question the status quo of what might appear to be outside of your control, simplify and most importantly be quick to adapt, improve, and execute.

At To The Top Management Consulting we can help in innovative ways that are outside the box of the industry standards as we want to walk the walk as we talk the talk.
